How to remove epoxy?
The previous owner of my ‘14 must have had a gas leak at the flange on the gas tank. Looks like their first fix was to seal it up with J B Weld… That must not have worked because on top of the J B Weld was another layer of a clear epoxy. That didn’t work either, so I’m trying to fix it correctly, but can’t get all of the epoxy out of all the nooks and crevasses. Any idea what might dissolve the stuff so I can get things cleaned out and do a solder job?

Saturate with MEK and keep it saturated until it softens. You can do this by continually painting the MEK on the areas you want to remove with an old paint brush or get a rag and pour MEK on it and press the saturated rag into the nooks and crannies. This will keep the MEK against the surface longer, before it evaporates. Ventilate the room good. MEK fumes are strong. If MEK doesn’t work, try Acetone using the same method. Get a pointy razor knife blade and scrape off when it softens. Jim Patrick
