24 Roadster "Barn Find"

Saw this (not mine) today and wanted to share a few pics - this T looks very un-monkeyed with, even the upholstery appears original. The wiring, and not much else, has been replaced in order to make it run reliably.

It appears to be a 1925 model - equal length door hinge, 2 rivet data plate, steel inner dash uprights & single rear windows are indicative of '25 - great car !

Going by the hinges it’s a 25. But WOW it really does look that it hasn’t been touched after all these years! If it has its very little. The wider brake pedal has been added. And the best thing is it hasn’t been left out on the “back fourty” but pretty much on the inside!

I agree with Steve Tomaso. It also looks like it had the one piece rear window. It could be a '25, but the engine number will tell. The late 1924's were indeed 1925 models. Great find!

Engine block and head looks like they've been repainted so it probably was removed from the car and overhauled or rebuilt some time within the last 75 years.

Also, notice the "clipped corner" "two rivet" data plate on the firewall! Another "1925" detail. Bet it has a two rivet brake handle quadrant?

I have to add that looking again closer the fenders aren’t cracked under the top bead or even crumpled a bit. Amazing. It was really taken care of.

Looking at the valve cover you can just see a fairly new valve cover gasket. Probably had some engine work not many years ago.

The brake pedal appears to be from a '26 or '27.

Thats my question - if it's been "un-monkeyed" with why does it have a later hogshead. meaning (?) later transmission... so somebody's been in there. It looks like it's not been touched, but that (to me) is a glaring red flag... not that it's "bad", and yeah, if'n you have big feet, the later conversion would be well apreciated. But also to me, "unmolested" means something more akin to a rip van winkel car that hasn't been driven much, and stored in a barn since it was less than 5 or 10 years old IMO without having major parts replaced or changes done.

I would love to see it in person, or at least a photoshoot of the whole car. Certainly don't want to burst bubbles, but it WOULD explain what a different transmission is doing on a car made before that transmission was finalized for development and production.

The brake pedal itself is easy enough to swap out for more foot area - doesn't necessarily means the cover was changed.

The front fenders didn't show up clearly. They were also changed in 1925 to the newer style.

It even has the rubber plugs yet, where the top saddles would go. I wonder if the top saddles are still under the seat. That's where they were on my '25 Touring, that also had the plugs still in place, (until they crumbled and fell out). Dad said the saddles had been under the rear seat when he bought the car in 1940.

I have recently bought a 23 roadster without the top irons, my question to you all is how many top irons did a 23 haveng the pictures here show one in the back the middle one and is there a wood bow or iron in the front, The ones they are listing on ebay shows 23 to 25 being the same, were they the same, my buddy has a 22 which is completely different.

"Original" Model T fords often had engine swaps, often early on. Later on, good Model T engines could be had, often for free. I once owned a 1916 that had been a touring car. In the 1930s, he replaced the body with a center door 1920 body. When I bought the car in 1948 for $25 1916 parts were still I'm his garage. I left them, for in 1948, that was not a great find.

I'm not doing the research now, but the MTFCI judging guidelines and Bruce McCalley's Model T Encyclopedia are helpful in figuring out what's correct.

Didnt 25 roadster ONLY have a narrow tool tray behind the fuel tank?
The door hinges are 25.
Carb mixture/choke linkage could be correct for an early 25.
Later used the 26 style combination choke & mixture set up.
