Got my new right hip on Friday
Most of the pain is gone already. A bit stiff, but with help you could get me in a car. I think I could survive a 20 mile ridel Not sure I could drive and handle the brakes, but there is a handle on the left and if I time my actions correctly......I already walked 100 feet to the mailbox and back. They told me to exercise it. Wonder what a left hip is like?

Re: Got my new right hip on Friday
Best of luck Dave. Are you going to have to get the left done also? Keep walking and exercising and get back in your T soon.

Re: Got my new right hip on Friday
Dave, do the physio! I did not on my right one and it is not as flexible as the left one I had done later. I would not do 20 miles, sitting in a T, on any kind of road. You would be better off walking 1/2 mile weight bearing on the joint. Just stay of ladders!

Re: Got my new right hip on Friday
I had my right hip replaced in 2015. If it wasn't for the scar I wouldn't know it wasn't the original. It is very important to do the physical therapy and follow the doc's instructions.

Re: Got my new right hip on Friday
Had my right hip done December 2023. What I loved was filling out some surveys to measure my rehab progress.
Do you think you can STILL walk a mile without any pain as a result of hip surgery?
Do you think you can STILL run a mile without any pain as a result of hip surgery?
I didn't have any pain but lied (need knee replacement) and answered Yes to both.

The past is a great place and I don't want to erase it or to regret it, but I don't want to be its prisoner either.

Re: Got my new right hip on Friday
That’s good news! There was a time if you had surgery of that type and others you stayed in the bed! Not any more! They get you up and moving pretty quick since the Docs recognized that was the thing to do. Do your exercises and therapy as we know you will. As my Father use to say years ago “you gotta keep movin!” Good luck! It’s amazing what they can do these days!

Re: Got my new right hip on Friday
I thought my replacement knee was acting up. My doctor x-rayed me and then used ultrasound to locate a sweet spot in my hip to inject cortisone. Within minutes I was pain free and raced my wife to the elevator and won. Three weeks later, walking around the Motor Muster with my cane was pure hell.
The doctor says I can have two more shots maximum but warned me I’m putting off the inevitable. I’m going back in August to set up a surgery date for a new hip.
My sister and my neighbor Marty had hip replacements the same day. Marty was carrying his cane horizontally while he walked his dog a few days after his surgery. My sister on the other hand, was crabby. I want to turn out like Marty.

Re: Got my new right hip on Friday
I lost over half my oil. Down to a quart or so.
The radiator was dry, but the head still had a little antifreeze in it.
I asked for brass, but Doc said I had a 1920 and brass would not look right.
Thankfully the left side is NOS, so I do not have to replace that one.
Don't know if I can make it to OCF or not. I think Hershey will wait another year.
Good thing both engines are running.

Dave,
Thanks for the detailed report.
From it, sounds like the spark did not die. Keep the wheels spinning.

Dave,
Did you opt for a grease cup or zerk fitting so you’re able to service the new hip?

Glad to learn your rebuild went well and on the mends. Sounds like you will be exercising soon doing 100 or so brake petal flexes as part of your PT regimen.

Re: Got my new right hip on Friday
I had my left hip done when I was 79. I went to work three days after. I am 92 now and the hip is doing just fine. My right hip is original and I probably with just stay with that one.

Hershey is a LOT of walking. OCF, not so much.

I have had a little work done as well.
Left Hip 1993
Right Hip 1994
Left Knee 2016
Right Knee 2017
Left Shoulder 2018
One more and I will have a full Six-Pack,

I am worth quite a bit in precious metals.

When I am gone, they will just sell me for scrap.

One small bit of advice - DO THE EXERCISES & DO THE PHYSICAL THERAPY.
Those two items will have the greatest impact on the overall outcome.
My overall mobility and flexibility is as if I never had anything replaced.

Re: Got my new right hip on Friday
Pay attention the PT!!!
If you can handle it, double down on the home aspect.
When you are all done the prescribed PT (you time out)...then decide where you are, and talk to your Dr...if he agrees that your body will 'benefit' from more PT you can start all over for a second round, or third...
Since we are old and talk about being rebuilt...after my fall from 2 stories up and 6 months on immobilized leg, I learned to walk again but after months of PT my rebuilt kneecap (a real Humpty Dumpty/Super Glue story) would only bend 127 degrees max and 'good as new' is 135 degrees. Close enough said I. Therapist told me to wrap my arms around upper left calf, she then backed up 10 feet, and raced forward as if she played left tackle with contact on my shin! Only a second of sheer terror....she then broke out her protractor, determined I was now at 137 degrees, and told me to keep it that way...lol.

Re: Got my new right hip on Friday
Dave, the best of luck with it. Do what the Dr. and Therapist say. My wife has had great luck with two of them but not so good with the first. (and she only has 2 hips). They have improved both the parts and the procedures since. I can't keep up with her now. I won't mention the bad one as they don't use it anymore and I'm sure yours will be GREAT!
When did I do that?

I always enjoy seeing good updates from around our wonderful model T family here on the forum!
It is amazing some of the medical technology and procedures that have been developed over the past thirty years.
Work at it and be well my friend!
