That's a three-wheeled Knox-Martin tractor that Herb posted with the phone poles trailer.

I don't recall Atterbury but see they were a truck producer from 1904 to 1935. That seems to be a long time for a truck not to be more in the limelight.

Thanks for that Rich, yes, with a 30+ year run you’d think they’d be more well known. Buffalo ? I’d be willing to bet on a Pierce-Arrow or White connection, maybe both ? Would be an interesting history in any case.

It looks like they are ready to go to work. I believe that is a Rapid truck. Here is a similar one. They did put a "Rapid" script on the radiator, but it is often hard to read in the photos.

I saw that rig, or one just like it at the Museum Of American Speed in Lincoln, Nebraska last summer. Even the truck has a Rajo head. Sorry. I don't have a photo of it but it might be on their wedsite.

I have seen several photos of that truck and the race car. It was quite famous, and eventually was sold to the Museum of Speed.

This almost looks like a big car that was converted to a truck, except for the rear wheels that look like they have solid rubber tires.

I found a book entitled "This was trucking" could this be the book you once had, Herb?

Just a 20 year old who listens to 40 year old music, works on 75 year old airplanes and drives 100 year old cars.

Yes, that is the one.
Did you enjoy it?
I think my copy is in the attic, lost but there somewhere.
Is there a photo in it of a magnet with a lot of nails stuck to it, that were collected off of the road?

I didnt see it, but I also didn't get to every page.
Just a 20 year old who listens to 40 year old music, works on 75 year old airplanes and drives 100 year old cars.

That is ok.
It is still a good book if you have time to go through it.

Interesting. It has a Model T power unit to; I assume run the boom. I don't recall seeing that before.
Now, what is the base truck?

This White truck was recently pulled from storage in the old mining town of Gold Hill Colorado. We are hoping to build a static display for the local history museum. Seems to be complete and a rebuild is scheduled to start this winter. Please let us know if you have any related info! Thanks! -Chris, in Boulder

A couple of things. 1. There is a truck museum at Campo in east San Diego County. near it is a train museum. Next time you come out, let me know and I will show you where it is. The truck museum restored a bus which was used for taking the passengers from the railroad to Julian during many years ago.
2, my grandfather had some old TT trucks used for his furniture factory. I posted a picture of it on this forum many years ago in one of the early pages. He made a rake of T magnets which could be used to comb the grounds and floors for screws and nails which had fallen on the floor.

I believe an about 1906/'07 Cadillac runabout with a pickup box added onto the rear. That round thing above the hood is an acetylene gas (large) spot lamp. An after-market accessory that some people in the early days would choose over two headlamps for night driving. More common on automobiles and trucks before 1910, however, they remained available through the 1910s and were often used on fire trucks even much later. Some Mercer Raceabouts (and similar cars) had them in the mid 1910s, and a few have been restored that way.
