Sorry everybody, we had some major speed issues today and had to lock the board.

Hopefully it will be good for a bit now.

There must be some rust in the forums, and molasses is being used to remove it for the past three days.

I had a too many redirects error the past few days. This morning is the first I've been able to access it at all.
On this end it is still quite slow, but it is functional.

Site is impractical to use at this speed. Reminds me of the dial up days. :(

I see NO DIFFERENCE in Forum speed between between Yesterday (Friday) and today (Saturday). The time for the Forum to respond from the time you hit the ENTER key to the time it pops up on your screen, is WORSE than when I had a "Dial Up" internet provider, Twenty years ago. I was hoping this would be Totally fixed by now. When I log off, now, I'll check back in maybe once every SIX hours. If the slow response is still happening, I won't waste my time waiting for it to decide when to respond. I'll just go about other business and check back every SIX hours. Hopefully, I'm not the only user that is still experiencing slow speed. Every other site I go to, is fast and fine.

Seems to be a bit faster now.
Even if it is slow, IT'S BETTER THAN NO FORUM AT ALL!
I'm not the one devoting my time to fixing and maintining it, and it's a free servive, so who am I to complain?
The forurm is like the T, slow and needs a bit of tinkering, but it gets the job done. :)
Thanks to those who keep the forum going. You only hear about it when there's a problem. :)

Forum Back to Speed

Post by ModelTWoods » Sat Feb 15, 2025 10:19 pm

"Happy Days Are Here, Again" the song goes, and it fits the return of the Forum to speed, also. Many Thanks (Mucho Gracias) to the Admins who maintain and repair the Forum when "things go South" caused by Hackers or other maladies.

We battle this daily. For whatever reason, hackers seem to love giving a bunch of old guys and gals grief and attack this forum relentlessly.

I was on the phone with tech support for several hours today getting this fixed. Hopefully it will stick this time.
Trust me when I say WE ALWAYS KNOW WHEN ITS HAPPENING. And it's not easy to fix. No need to flood our emails with complaints.
I, along with all of you, have MUCH better things to do with the time I have left on this earth rather than chase hackers away from our websites.

Another auto-related site, with the Gus/Model Garage stories going back to 1926, had some kind of issue a day or two ago. It seems to be resolved now. My computer put on a hacker warning when I tried to access it. That's never happened before.

Well, Happy Belated Birthday Chris B!!!

And many "Thank You"s to both Chris and Jeff along with any and all others that work along with them to keep our wonderful forum running (mostly) smoothly.

Strictly as FYI, I was not able to get on at all yesterday, or another day a couple days before. The day between, I was only able to get on for about two hours.
Stay strong guys!

Unfortunately for me it has slowed down again. Jay is correct. Takes almost 60 seconds to load a page.

I know Jeff and Chris are working hard to fix this. Just letting them know of the issue here.

Jeff and Chris work way too hard keeping the site up. A much better approach would be for the powers of the board members to "MAKE THE SITE AVAILABLE TO FULLY PAID MEMBERS ONLY"! We all pay to play and no scammer/hacker is going to pay $50.00 to access with personal information, ie, email, home address, phone number, etc which needs to be verified prior to entry. I as well as others are going to other means of selling due to this problem. Don't ask why people are not chiming in and being active when others aren't protecting members. The death of this club is coming so be proactive as other clubs have adopted this approach and it works. Freeloaders are a form of socialism and it always takes the system down...., read and watch history.

Chris and Jeff are well aware of the problems others have put on the Forum... Sometimes snapping your fingers does not cure problems, we have to be a little bit more resilient and accept any changes in Forum speed to correct the problems.

There are some major problems we are trying to sort through mostly related to SQL server & the phpbb software.

Interesting fact is the software does not actually crash just seems like it as it's so slow.

Not a computer geek so just asking questions not pointing the finger,

I belong to several high end car chat sites and they never have any issues. We all pay a nominal annual fee and have very secret passwords that change from time to time
Yes we have to sign in each time but a small inconvenience for fast time and no garbage.

I'd gladly pay a fee to get good trouble free service.

just sayin'
