Matco Magneto Rotation

Post by Rajo23 » Wed Feb 19, 2025 1:01 am

I am uncertain about the direction of rotation of this Matco drive, and am wondering if the rotation is clockwise or counterclockwise.
The magneto is currently being rebuilt, and the rebuilder needs to know the rotation.
Thank you!

John, in the absence of a direct response from someone who knows, you could work it out by mocking up the fitting of the unit. The gear cut will tell you the direction they turn the magneto. The camshaft rotates counter clockwise, so there is a stating point for you. When reporting you results to the builder, be sure you are both reporting/receiving your findings when looking at the drive end of the magneto.

Hope this helps.

Looking from the mag points toward the shaft end of the mag, the output shaft of the drive and the mag points will turn counter clockwise. Looking at the mag drive from the front of the engine the output shaft will rotate top coming toward you. The mag is on the right, looking AT the input shaft of the mag with the points away from you the mag is turning clockwise.
