This is where I was told to install one by someone knowledgeable. Where the bolt is sitting. I used a 1/4" pipe thread cintered bronze vent.

The Ford Model A transmission has a vent hole on the shift tower.
I know the voices aren't real but damn they have some good ideas!

The later Layne Warfords come with a vent. See picture for location. You guess looks pretty good.

Perhaps a dumb question, but I have two original aluminum Warfords and I can't remember seeing a vent on either one of them. Maybe I've over looked them. If the original Warfords didn't have them, why are they recommended, now?

The Warford offered by Layne Machine Works build up internal pressure & weep oil out of the shift rail area. Layne puts in vents in all of their units now.

I drill the top of my fill plug and seems to help.

Gentleman , thanks for all input, I have drilled fill plug & installed vent hose over fuel tank w/ catch bottle, getting some fluid after some miles.
One additional question.. all photos show brass vent location at rear of shift tower. Can it be installed at front area of the tower?

I would guess that the modern Warfords use modern seals and are well contained, whereas the originals were probably "ventilated" due to the poor sealing technology of the era.
