For the Younger People lest we should ever forget

Post by ironhorse » Thu May 08, 2025 8:24 am

Good Morning! On this day in 1945, the U.S., U.K., and other Allied nations celebrated Victory in Europe Day, marking the defeat of the Nazis in World War II. AMEN!
Do it right or do it over, your choice. Drive like everyone is out to get you!

VE, victory in europe day.
We remember and honor.
Just a 20 year old who listens to 40 year old music, works on 75 year old airplanes and drives 100 year old cars.
The past is only simple because hindsight is 20/20.

The one my dad was waiting for was VJ Day! He was Navy, skipper of the landing craft tank, LCT 685, at Okinawa! He started in the New Hebrides, then to Biak, then Leyte Gulf in the Philippines, then Subic Bay and Manila, then to Okinawa, and then finally landing the initial lands in Japan. All that way under their own power, at 5 knots! 105 foot, 220 ton, flat bottom ramp type landing barge capacity, three Sherman tanks or equivalent!
