*Brand New* Starter Field Coil Kit - FINALLY!

Post by AdminJeff » Wed Jun 18, 2025 1:08 pm

After over a year of work, I finally have my brand new Model T Starter field coils completed and ready to ship. They come with everything I also make to get the job done right.

I got tired of spending over $100 on the Wilson field coils so now I make them. These are replicas of the original Model T field coils but are superior to the aftermarket Wilson field coils in several important ways. The post is solid copper and comes pre-installed with a copper stake and then silver soldered to the coils for maximum strength. Copper is MUCH better for post material, especially when you’re trying to cram as much of that 6v battery power into the starter as possible. The cloth field wrappings are each dipped in Epoxy, making shorted windings a thing of the past. The individual field windings are separated by a plastic insulators not cardboard so they will last a lifetime and more.

Just like the Wilson field coils, these take some massaging to install correctly. These are copper windings and are very stiff.
I hope to create a video soon showing how I do it.

The COMPLETE Kit Includes:
  • Brand New, Copper Field coils
    Pre-installed solid copper post
    two stainless steel washers
    fiber, insulator washer
    plastic post insulator
2 exact replica, thin post nuts
triangular fiber lead insulator (the one nobody sells)
4 brand new field pole bolts (not shown)
Available now on my website:

:)

I must say, this was the most ambitious product I've made so far. So many little details everyone takes for granted....
Next up are Generator Field Coils and Generator Armatures. I should have those done by the end of the year.

Pure artistry, congrats! Any plans to produce a 12 volt version?

Yup. I use these to make 12v versions on demand.

You know what? To date, I have over $15,000+++ invested in making and fabricating all these parts .I'm not alone - others toil the same way I do... And, I'm not quoting that figure for any reason other than to say just how much it takes to invest in our hobby to keep it going for decades from now. Starters and generators aren't sexy. But every time you go to start you 1919-1927 car and it doesn't start, or it doesn't charge, I get a call, along with a dozen other folks like Chris Mize, We live and breathe this stuff....

Tonight I recorded a video for Steve Tomaso showing him the 1000's of parts I've produced and hoping that when I'm gone from this planet, someone else will pick up the torch and carry on from where I left off.

Too often our mentors leave this earth with their secrets - I'm not going to be one of those guys. So, while my hands may give out someday soon, just like Ron Patterson's did, my contribution to this hobby will live on. I frigging love my T.

Beautiful work Jeff, as always. Thank you for tagging me in your post and I hope to carry the torch, and also try to encourage others my age and younger to do the same. Like you, I strive to do the highest quality work to maintain these wonderful machines and keep history on the road. Thank you for your time, commitment to our hobby, and your friendship.
