WTB 5 lug wire wheel spare carrier

Post by Wolffydmc16 » Wed Aug 13, 2025 3:04 pm

Looking for a spare tire carrier for the back of my touring after I converted to steel wheels. Haven't found any local at the swaps. Not looking for something perfect, I'm on a budget. Please let me know what you have. Thanks

If you already have a Ford spare carrier all you should have to do is unbolt the "Y" and the wires should be able to bolt onto the triangle part that is hidden beneath. Hope I explained it clearly. Jim
Ps. I added a couple pics of the one from my roadster the stock ones I would think are about the same as far as the 'Y'.

You need to be clearer.
What kind of carrier do you have now & what kind of "steel" wheel are you hoping to mount.

I think there is a Service Bulletin that explains all this.

Model A wheels are a different bolt pattern. A goose neck carrier will need some modification.

That's no problem to change the pattern

Just wondering if a Model A gooseneck would work. There should be a lot of them around if Model A's used goosenecks. Otherwise I know Model A cars had wheel wells in the front fender. Have you considered that method?

I see you have another carrier at the present time. You will have to lift the body to get that out.

You might also need the longer brackets on the rear spring to get a gooseneck to fit. That is what I had to do. I think I still have a set if you are looking for some.

All the A tire mounts I've seen are very stubby. Just a few inches.

I didn't know this current mount style would need the body to be lifted to remove, sounds fun.

My car has nice paint so I'm not looking to cut a well in the fender to fit one up there.

That tire mount you have is probably riveted to the frame 3 rivets each side if you lucky its bolted
