26/27 Wheels

Something with these wheels does not look right. All the 26/27 rims I have seen have the lugs attached to the rim and not like the ones in the pic.

Loose lugs look like chebies. Do they say Jaxon? Chev rims valve stem is on the opposite side of a lug to a ford. I dont have a rim I can look @ to confirm.

Robert, it would help if you took one rim off the wheel to show us the loose lug, where there might have been another valve stem hole drilled, any holes in which the lug engages on the felloe, and the cross section of the felloe.

Those do look like Jaxon lugs and wheels. Most Chevrolet wooden spoke wheels I have seen that size also had fixed lugs on the rims. I have even had 21 inch Ford wheels drilled to accept the Chevrolet rims (drilled in both positions for the valve stem).
Those may have been after-market wheels for earlier Fords to use the new type "balloon" tires. Such wheels were made and offered by several companies for the model T. Or they may have been from some other car, had the hubs replaced by T hubs for the same purpose, to use the newer style tires.

Not aware of Jaxon making wood 21" wheels for Chevrolet just the 21" disk wheels. Chevrolet use the same 21" wood wheel make as Ford. Jaxon would have their name on the rim clamps. Would not be the first time Chevrolet wheels were mounted on Ford hubs.
Wayne may be right on the aftermarket thing.

I don't believe anyone is saying that the wheels themselves are Jaxon, just the rims & clamps.

Yes ,those are Jaxon rims from a 1925-27 Chevy disk wheel with Ford hubs and modfied or maybe after market Chevy. As I remember when you are looking at the front of the wheel the easiest way to tell the difference between Ford and Chevy wheels , no matter what hub they have , is looking at the closest lug to the valve stem. The valve stem will be on the right for a Ford wheel and the valve stem will be on the left for a Chevy wheel, of course that assumes that the rim has not been re-drilled for the other car manufacturer.

I knew I came to the right place, a wealth of information. These are wheels I was looking to buy but the didn't look right. Glad I asked. I have other wheels that I have to check. I believe the stem is to the left of the lug.

Thing can get really confusing when it comes to wheels (at least for me). I have these other wheels I always thought they were correct 26-27 wheels but maybe they are a mix of Ford and Chevy. What do you think?

Robert, I see a couple of rims with a slotted lug near the valve stem. This is usually a reliable indicator that the rim at least is not a Ford rim. Chevs had that slotted lug to enable the rim to be mounted because the valve stem hole was close to the adjacent spoke, and the rim had to be dropped down over the lug. These Chev rims will fit Ford rims if the valve stem hole is re-drilled to suit.
