Re: Our first apartment.
Interesting era side curtains on that touring in the 2nd photo..
I didn’t realize they offered such visibility back then. Perhaps
‘Canadian sourced’ ?

Sure looks like wood to me. Any guesses? Manif or home made?

#2 - “California Top” in common parlance - I’d guess “locally sourced” rather than manufactured. My question - how do you get in ?!?

Photo number three, same car, at the same location with the same Dodge Brothers car behind it is in Tom's "Stuck" thread. More people in this shot.

Re: Our first apartment.
It is my understanding that "California Tops" included a hard top shell and rigid back to emulate more of a closed car feel. So this looks to be more of a hybrid solution.Rich P. As for getting in, you can see the front and back windowed panels are hinged right above the door hinges, with the hinges attached to the fixed boards that are at the windshield and rear top sockets. There is also a latch visible for the front window, that latch should go through the frame of the fixed center window so that the latch can be worked from inside or outside the car.

#4, cracks in the ground. I think she is saying goodbye to the family farm.

Re: Our first apartment.
From looks of things, seems like at least for the front door the top-angled bow is in the way of opening the window, as it would appear by the shape of the hinges and just normally, the window would have to swing outward. That bow is in the way!ewdysar wrote: ↑Tue Oct 21, 2025 6:13 pmIt is my understanding that "California Tops" included a hard top shell and rigid back to emulate more of a closed car feel. Re: Our first apartment.
Have an ad for a California Winter top.
It's a hard top. Dad and Grandpop had car dealerships from the late teens until right after WWll. I'll try to send a pic but being old and technically challenged, I don't know if I can do it

Re: Our first apartment.
There are several manufacturers of what is referred to as a "California top". From what I have seen in the old Ads is that the tops are solid and don't use the existing top & top irons as in the picture. May be a unique one

There are what appears to be hinges on the wood framed windows
