1919 Fisher Body purchase and Henry Ford

Post by amesbuilt » Tue Jul 09, 2019 9:27 pm

100 years ago William Crapo Durant purchased 60% of Fisher Body from the Fisher Brothers. Does anyone know when in 1919 this occurred? Ford Detroit was purchasing bodies from Fisher. Any idea what body styles? So, all of a sudden a conflict here. Henry wouldn’t be happy with this scenario, Ford Motor Company buying from the competition. Is there any record of what Henry response was? Did he drop the Fisher made bodies asap? Fisher Body had a factory in Walkerville Ontario on Edna Street. A good number if not all Touring and Runabout bodies made by them were hauled on horse drawn wagons to the Canadian Ford factory. In the fall 1919 Ford of Canada purchased the sheet metal division of Dominion Forge and Stamping. As an educated guess, perhaps to facilitate ‘in-house’ fabrication of bodies?
Anybody have any further information about this?

thanks
Kevin

I don't know exactly when GM acquired Fischer Body Corporation, however, I believe Ford was still using Fischer built coupe bodies in 1924, and I think '25.
