Duncan,Ok. swapmeet

Post by Gene_French » Sun Jan 18, 2026 12:05 pm

it is getting to be time to start planning our springtime auto. activities ... i spoke with Kevin Hammock this week regarding any changes in the Duncan swapmeet in March ... the only change is BIGGER ... the 2 north buildings are sold out and the building that was under construction last year is completed and will house an additional 100 plus spaces ... also outside spaces are increased due to the area used for construction access and staging is now available ... this meet is a general swapmeet that has added a seperate pre-war section ...this is much like the Chickasha meet with similar indoor facilities including comfortable heated indoor spaces with clean restrooms and showers ... many of the vendors that had attended the Chickasha meet were onsite as were additional regional vendors ... last years event had a good variety of mostly model T parts and several project as well as restored vehicles ...i had good sales and also purchased several items of interest including period Masonic items and a Rajo cylinder head a model B crankshaft and some early Dodge Brothers literature ...a good event for me and i also visited with many of the MTFCA membership including John Tanahill , the Temples ,Donny Brown ,John Steele and George House ...i recommend this meet to all active hobbyist and restorers ...an excellent buyer/seller environment in a comfortable , accessible , central location ...job well done Kevin ...thank you ...Gene French
P.S. i will start a "wanted to buy" Duncan Swapmeet section ... i am looking for a windshield frame for a 1931 Murry body Model A 4 dr. ( has slant windshield ) , 1900-1930 Masonic items , early 4 cyl. Dodge Brothers parts particularly 20" and 24" disc wheels and lockrings ...i will remind all that at a swapmeet you can see what you are buying ...many of us have been SCAMMED by sellers that claim to have a needed part or give an in-accurate description of an item or a very poor photo ...at a swapmeet you are the judge of the quality and suitability and worth of a part ... a swapmeet is just as much of a hobby event as going to a car show and bragging about your expensive paint job ...

have spoken with several regional hobbyist here in northern Colorado and also Wyoming there is a lot of interest in locating parts for their projects and way too many questions of "what will sell" ... my answer is " i don't know" ... BUT , you might try listing what items you have for sale and what items you want to buy ...this meet is approx. 750 mile each way for me and not an easy drive if weather is bad ... same can be said for most others ... and yes , i can probably be more productive here at home ...BUT , i do enjoy the meet and i have been able to view and purchase items that i may not have even known to exist ...i have made many contacts that have helped to locate parts for my projects and have assisted them in their projects or answered questions or shared philosophies ...if the decision to attend is based on economic gain only , then i would recommend that a person stay home ... if there is an interest in the hobby and preservation of automotive history and fellowship then this is an excellent opportunity to advance those values ...hope to see you all there , stay safe and warm ( currently a balmy -3 deg. F. ) Gene French

It is true that a lot of the Chickasha crowd has shifted to Duncan. Chickasha used to to an incredible swap meet, but it dwindled down each year for the last 8 years or so. I will be attending Duncan again this year with the hope of helping it grow into what Chickasha used to be 10+ years ago. I was at Duncan last year and did really well. I also got to catch up with lots of people that used to attend Chickasha. Please spread the word about the pre-war areas because Duncan has the potential to become what Chickasha used to be.

Michael:
this meet should grow , the site is excellent and the meet organizer ( Kevin Hammock) has developed long term plan to host a general interest meet with a separate area for the earlier ( pre 1949) vendors ... i also did well on sales and met many new people to this meet ...i was also able to purchase items of interest and cores for re-building ...Gene French

Hope this can grow to the extend that Chikasha was in 2010 when I visited over the next couple of years so when situation become more normal in the US, one could consider to come over. And maybe bring a couple of other Ford guys with me (that use to go to Hershey).

First time attending and I’m considering setting up this year. Is this considered a 3 day swap with set up Thursday morning, or Will vendor set up be Thursday evening like Chickasaw with Friday & Sat being the open swap day?

I will be attending again this year. I recommend this swap meet. I see potential for it growing each year. I did very well last year. Both buying and selling. For the first year to have the prewar added to the existing swap meet, I think it went very well. Kevin and his crew did great. As to the set up dates and time. It is a Thursday Friday Saturday swap meet. Last year we were allowed into the building and grounds after 5:00 PM Wednesday. Some folks did some setup Wednesday and then went to Motels. We set up Wednesday and we also camp on our spaces, so by 10:00 PM we were set up, popped up the rooftop tent on the truck, had supper, and took a nice hot shower. Others had small RVs or camped in the back of their trucks camper shell. There were several "campers" in the building. The building is heated. I would just check with Kevin about set up and camping. There was room right outside the building to park a camper or motorhome. But no hookups.
Here is my list of want items.
1. Pre WW2 camping items. Preferably 1920s to mid 1930s . Anything pertaining to Motor Camping
2. Model T accessories.
For sale items. Lots of T parts. And lots of just general prevwar items for all makes
3. And lots of pre war collectables and memrobelia.
Lots of folks know me. My load can have almost anything on it...

See ya'll there .........
