Re: Building a Simple Warford Rear Mount
By attaching at the rear ball mount, gives you some nice clearances. When attaching to the frame, and using a little grease between the the wood and fender washers, tightening up then backing off the ny-loc washers, you have moment when the frame needs to flex. I like using a metal insert in my wood for longevity.

Re: Building a Simple Warford Rear Mount
Hi Harold,
I never received a PM, looked for it but not there.
The weight difference between a cast iron and aluminum case is approx. 14 pounds. Installing with the mount I have made with grade 8 bolts, has never failed in 20 years plus. The reason for the heavy mount used originally was to counter act the weight of the TT torque tube. That old girl weighed a lot.
I hope this clarifies any concerns.
All the Best,
Hank

Re: Building a Simple Warford Rear Mount
Another note on the TT is all the downward torque that occurs when braking and slowing down with compression. Some serious stresses going on!
