FJ - Grammy Gasser Bought A 1923 Model T Center Door In 1925 For Taking Eggs & Milk To The Market

Post by FreighTer Jim » Tue Mar 17, 2020 10:28 pm

I watched Miss Betty transform back to the 22 year old Louisiana college student as she recalled Big Joe pestering her
to take a ride in his 1923 Model T Center Door ...

We had just finished a welcome Sunday Meal of pot roast - mashed potatoes & gravy - carrots - sweet salad
and good conversation around the Dinner Table.

I was starting to learn about four generations of family that would use this car and pass it along.

Miss Erin Of New Orleans

Post by FreighTer Jim » Tue Mar 17, 2020 10:35 pm

Miss Erin is the daughter of Miss Betty and Big Joe - she lives in New Orleans and is a teacher.

I have a particular fondness for teachers ... 😉

I have two sisters - my best friend - along with Lou Mandich and The Kramer’s who all taught school.

Miss Erin contacted me awhile back and asked me to stop in & visit her Dad ( Big Joe ).

That brought me to Sunday Dinner.

Grammy Gasser

Post by FreighTer Jim » Tue Mar 17, 2020 10:44 pm

Back in 1925 - Grammy Gasser ( Big Joe’s Great Grandmother ) bought a 1923 Model T Center Door from a Banker in Wamigo, Kansas.

Miss Rose 🌹 Taeur Gasser needed a car to bring her 🥚 and 🥛 to market in Wamigo.

Miss Rose 🌹 would pass the Model T to her daughter’s children ( her grandchildren ).

Taking “ Bob “ To School

Post by FreighTer Jim » Tue Mar 17, 2020 10:58 pm

Big Joe’s father was named Robert so the Model T was named “ Bob “ in his honor.

The four grandchildren would take Bob to school and back - about four miles from home - in 1933 - their route followed a train track.

Bob’s driver was Miss Erin’s great aunt - she was about 13 at the time.

The train engineer kept a similar schedule for the daily drive and would wave 👋 to the kids from the 🚂 .

She got Joe stuck on the train tracks one day and the kids waited for the engineer to come to their rescue ... 🙏

A 1923 Model T Center Door

A Proper Banker’s Car 😉

Miss Erin has sent me a Short Novel of Joe’s history along with videos but no images - the image of Big Joe is from a video - he is giving
driving lessons in another Model T.

Big Joe is a member here - hopefully he will add images.

Pretty Baby

Post by FreighTer Jim » Wed Mar 18, 2020 10:53 am

Bob was passed down in the Family.
He was driven and served a number of Relatives.

Miss Erin’s Great Grandmother Miss Cecilia
recovered the worn seats & interior in red corduroy.

Bob was considered for the film “ Pretty Baby “ starring Brooke Shields - but the red seats & interior
were not period correct so Bob never made it to the Silver Screen ... 🎥 🍿

Bob played a more important role around that time - he was used in a Family Wedding in New Orleans.

Miss Virginia

Post by FreighTer Jim » Fri Mar 20, 2020 9:43 am

Miss Virginia ( seen above ) was one of the first female OB/GYN’s in Kansas.

Because of WW2 - the demand for Doctors became a calling for 💪 Women to take on
Traditional Male Professions.

Miss Virginia was engaged but agreed to be a date for Mr. Robert to a 🏀 game.

Miss Virginia was introduced to Mr. Robert by
Miss Nancy who was Miss Erin’s Great Aunt.

After the game - Miss Virginia went dancing with
Mr. Robert along with Miss Judy ( Miss Erin’s Aunt ) and Mr. Fergie ( Miss Erin’s Uncle ).

I don’t think Miss Virginia stood a chance
against this Family .... 🙄

Breaking Quarantine To Help Others

Post by FreighTer Jim » Sun Mar 22, 2020 10:00 pm

Teachers by nature are always putting the interests of others first - Miss Erin is on Hiatus
because of COVD-19.

Miss Erin spent time over the past few days chasing down medical equipment to help out the staff at the VA Medical Center in New Orleans ... 🦸‍♀️

She was risking her health to help her friend
that works there & the medical staff because they are severely limited on supplies ... 😷

She also extended the wait time to see her Family
when she broke Quarantine because she doesn’t want to be an active carrier.

Being a teacher - Miss Erin lives on a shoestring budget - yet she recently became an MTFCA Lifetime Member ...💪

This is Miss Erin
