Exhaust manifold question

Post by Boaski » Mon Sep 11, 2023 9:28 pm

My T has an exhaust manifold that appears to be for an auxiliary heater:

The shroud is missing and there are no holes in the floor to duct the heat if the shroud was there. My question is: are there any advantages or disadvantages of running this exhaust manifold? I know it seems to radiate heat rather well under the hood.

One aff do vantage is you can easily build the cover to make it work for winter driving

The heater manifolds are usually pretty straight, and do not warp like the standard manifold.

It may lend itself well to a custom-made manifold cooker.

Thanks for the responses. I guess I'll keep it on there if the stock ones are more prone to warping. Does the little "A" cast into the manifold mean it' an Arvin?

I noticed my intake was a little frosty looking on hot, high humidity days. I think I'll have to rig up an inlet pipe somehow.

Our ’22 touring has the same exhaust manifold as yours has. The comments are correct about it being unlikely to warp. It’s a good unit to have.

The carb and intake manifold on the touring routinely iced up from moderately to seriously. There seems to be no heat pipe (or stove) available for the exhaust manifolds we have, so I cobbled one up using an old heat pipe that had seen its better days. As you can see I also incorporated the lid off of a metal can. It was a cut, fit, and try job. It isn’t pretty but has been on the job since 1999.

I hope the photo show how I fashioned a heat pipe and if you have any questions I’d be glad to try and answer them.

Good luck. Tom in Taylor Mill, KY 41015

White Auto used to sell Arvin branded stuff. I once had an Arvin 6-tube table radio.
