An idea I tried today

Post by Les Schubert » Fri Nov 20, 2020 4:26 pm

It is inevitable that when line boring blocks that you will have a “gosh dang” experience. And you end up with one bearing that needs to be “fixed”!!
So I had a centre main cap that I was not happy with the adherence of the babbit. I have 5 good surfaces and 1 that I decided to redo.
So now the struggle is how to realign everything.
I had a moment of inspiration and mentioned it to a friend and he said he had successfully used the same concept.
So here are some pictures of the process this morning. This engine has a “C” crank cut to standard A size and full pressure.

i have bored the babbitt lined inserts of the 5 mainbearing Dodge Brothers 4 cyl. engines by placing bronze bushings in the #2 and #4 mainbearing saddle in the block and the inserts in the center mainbearing saddle ... worked great ... always an optimist ...Gene French
