Size of bore in cam bearings holes in block??

Post by Dan Hatch » Tue Dec 14, 2021 1:38 pm

Does anyone have the size for the front and center cam bearings holes in block?
Have not looked for it but was hoping someone had the Ford block drawing.

Another question, any idea why the cam bearings are not made in the oversized OD for worn block holes? At one time they were and that solved a lot of problems.

Who makes them now? I would be willing to buy a batch of front oversized. If they are on here please contact me at email address in pictures. Thanks Dan

Can't help with drawing specs but I know that the OD of the bearing is 1.371 and measuring a few blocks, they came in at 1.375. 1-3/8"

I found a post of 1.371 to 1.373. If the is correct, 1.375 is worn.
That is why we need oversized cam bearings.
Thanks Dan

If so Dan I find that interesting, anything usually on Fords basic machining was in whole fractions. The moving and replaceable parts had the clearances.

Can you lightly knurl the OD of replacement bearings to get a good fit?

Pat, the bearing case is cast iron, I don't think knurling would work.

I've knurled them before.

Additionally, the bearings are split, so holding onto them in order to knurl them is a bit more difficult... but not impossible I suppose.

Henry, I pulled down an engine looking for a knock, turned out to be the cam bearings had been shimmed up with stock and had been flogged out over miles and time.

What we need are Oversized bearings. The front one is the one usually worn.
The person that use to make did that, but quit a few years ago.
Who is making these new bearings? Someone has to know them.

There are other options, make your own or turn down the cast iron on an original and sleeve it.
